How Private Yoga Therapy Sessions can reduce anxiety & depression | The natural way to healing

Hi, I'm Joss, a trauma-informed Yoga Therapist. I’d love to share with you some of the research-backed benefits of Yoga Therapy for reducing anxiety and depression.

There are certain meditations and breathing techniques that are associated with a significant reduction in depressive and anxiety symptoms. And they’re known to stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system.

(In the below video, I’ve included a mini seated practice so you can explore boosting your mental health right now using the tools of Yoga Therapy).

If you’ve ever felt stuck or blocked struggling with anxiety and depression, Yoga Therapy could be perfect for you.

The simple holistic practices offered in private Yoga Therapy sessions (such as breathing techniques and restorative asanas) will help you regulate your nervous system, feel more grounded, improve your breathing, and more.

This information does not replace any guidance from a Doctor or Psychologist. The techniques that I’m about to share are known to enhance the effects of psychotherapy.

What is Yoga Therapy?

Private Yoga Therapy is whole person care that focuses on mental, emotional, physical health. Sessions address the root cause of anxiety and/or depression so clients can get back to their optimal health and wellness.

I’m trained as a Therapist to provide clients with individualized care plus a personalized at-home health program which can be used in-between (and beyond) sessions.

Sessions incorporate a broad range of tools and techniques for reducing anxiety and depression including nervous system regulation, breathwork, meditation, affirmations, yoga poses, and self-awareness techniques.

Anxiety and depression are an imbalance within. Yoga Therapy sessions help cultivate the most healthy balance in body, mind, and spirit.

Facts about anxiety and depression in North America:

  • Major depression is the 2nd most disabling medical condition in the US (The World Health Organization).

  • Major depression contributes not only to disability, but also to mortality.*

  • There are more than 49,000 deaths by suicide annually in the US. It’s estimated that major depression accounts for 20–35% of these deaths.*

  • Major depression also increases the risk of death from other medical conditions such as coronary artery disease and diabetes mellitus.*

  • Anxiety is associated with elevated sympathetic nervous system sensitivity (that’s your stress response)*

How can Yoga Therapy reduce anxiety and depression…

Here’s some promising research-backed practices and techniques which are used in a Yoga Therapy session:

  • Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (such as: body-scan meditations, mindfulness meditations, and gentle hatha yoga), is found to significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.*

  • Slow breathing and calming yoga forms stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system.*

  • Longer EXHALES than inhales are shown to enhance parasympathetic nervous system activity.*

  • Yoga + coherent breathing are associated with a significant reduction in depressive symptoms for individuals with MDD (both on and off anti-depressants).*

  • Stress Management Techniques (such as: exercise, mindfulness, meditation) can reduce anxiety symptoms and enhance the effects of psychotherapy.*

  • Research shows that the humming-bee breath (Bhramari) effectively stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, helps reduce heart rate and blood pressure. (Pramanik et al., 2010).

Hi! I’m Joss Frank, founder of Wild Womb. I understand how womb and body healing ignites when you look within for guidance because I self-healed from my painful periods, depression, anxiety, sexual assault, emotional and physical abuse… after years of failed efforts to feel better about myself. My failed efforts led to a revelation that true healing comes from within and it requires loving community.

Today, as a Yoga Therapist, I help people with womb and body healing so they can reclaim their feminine power, LOVE their sacred feminine bodies, and feel more confident.
