We’ve all had those feelings: a heavy sad heart or perhaps fiery anger in your belly. It took me so long to realize that avoiding my tough emotions was only giving them a cozy permanent home inside my sacred body.
It’s true what they say ‘You gotta feel it to heal it’
All emotions are valid. There’s a tendency to avoid certain emotions or label them as ‘bad’. This has a counter-productive effect because any act in resistance only amplifies and gives it power. For example: You suppress and bottle up your anger. What happens next? Usually an explosion of anger channeled inappropriately. We’ve all been there!
The path to releasing tough emotions - such as anger and sadness - is to prioritize a daily inner awareness practice.
An inner-awareness practice could be 5 minutes to sit and breath slow and notice how your heart feels. Or laying down to slowly breathe and notice where you feel tension in your body. As a Yoga Therapist, I offer loads of varieties of inner-awareness techniques to support different needs.
Being with all of your emotions every single day with no judgement and noticing where you feel your emotions in your body will dramatically improve how your emotions feel in your body. Instead of feeling tension, you can invite feelings of lightness and peace in. You deserve that!

Make a promise to yourself to be compassionate instead of judgemental towards ALL your feelings
Do not label your feelings as ‘good’ or ‘bad’
Give yourself space to feel what you need to feel instead of avoiding or resisting.
