You’re not alone if you’re a woman ready to feel more confident and free in her body. I know I did for years and I was so fed up with trying everything from pole dancing lessons to courses to self-help books yet still feeling low self esteem.
What I discovered in my personal journey to building self-confidence is that there was a key step missing:
I needed a gentle process to let go of my self-limiting thoughts and heavy feelings. This healing process is known as Shadow Work.
Shadow work helps you overcome low self esteem, let go of heavy emotions, and create a positive space within to build self-confidence.
There are many different ways to offer shadow work. It typically involves exploring the unconscious aspects of self (repressed emotions, fears, and more) so you can create space within to build positive new goals such as confidence and empowerment.
Shadow work helps you practice more self-compassion and welcome every part of yourself so that you can feel more clarity and confidence in your life.
I offer shadow work in my online course using creative journal inquiries, art exercises, and yoga practices but there are many different methods to explore shadow work.
In my experience - as someone who healed using shadow work and now helps clients - Shadow work should be a gentle trauma-informed process.
I discovered that there are many teachers who offer quite intrusive shadow work techniques. I tried these techniques and it traumatized me and actually did more damage than good.
You can explore shadow work in a way that’s trauma-informed, patient, and loving.
It’s common for women to carry heavy feelings - such as shame, guilt, and self-doubt - in the womb space (also known as the sacral chakra or pelvic region).
It’s not reasonable to jump straight to feeling more confident when you're experiencing low self esteem, heavy emotions, and fears. This is why shadow work is so important. It helps you let go of the emotional tensions and fears that are blocking those positive feelings within you.
Shadow work can understandably feel scary and daunting. It's tough to face the darker parts of ourself. What’s worse is doing it alone or being guided by a teacher who’s not qualified or experienced enough.
If you sense you’re ready to explore shadow work so you can begin to heal and let go, be cautious and take your time with it.
Shadow work gives you the power to release your fears so you can feel more confidence, freedom, and peace in your life.
Once you know how to release your fears and emotional tensions - in a way that feels safe - you can better tap into your power to feel more confident.
Want to explore shadow work right now?
Explore saying this affirmation out loud: “I Have The Freedom To Feel More Confident!”
Next, pop your journal open and explore these questions:
How did it feel to say that out loud? (did you feel excited, doubtful, etc)
What thoughts came up? (be honest and let it be raw. It’s normal that self-limiting thoughts might pop up)
How did your body feel? (Where did you feel this in your body when you said it out loud?)
Keep getting curious about yourself and taking those baby steps forward. You can 100% do this.
Bottom Line:
Shadow work is different for each individual. We all carry parts of ourself that we hide which are based on personal traumas and experiences throughout life. Building confidence starts with releasing the heavy emotions and fears that are no longer serving you and shadow work is an incredible modality to help you overcome low self esteem.

Hi! I’m Joss Frank, founder of Wild Womb. I understand how womb and body healing ignites when you look within for guidance because I self-healed from my painful periods, depression, anxiety, sexual assault, emotional and physical abuse… after years of failed efforts to feel better about myself. My failed efforts led to a revelation that true healing comes from within and it requires loving community.
Today, as a Yoga Therapist in my practicum, I help people with womb and body healing so they can reclaim their feminine power, LOVE their sacred feminine bodies, and feel more confident.
