How to Let Go Using Feminine Energy (And Why It Actually Works)

Discover how feminine energy helps you let go with grace. Learn simple yoga exercises and self-care to reconnect with feminine energy so you can master detachment and release what no longer serves you.

Letting go is one of the hardest things the body is asked to do — and most advice about it skips the most important part: your nervous system.

If you've been struggling to release an ex, heal from past trauma, or stop replaying situations you have no control over, it's not just about will power, it’s about healing through the body. The body holds on long after the mind has decided to move forward.

Feminine energy — with its qualities of surrender, flow, and cyclical rhythm — is one of the most natural antidotes to the state of resistance that keeps us stuck. In this post I'm going to explain why, and give you practical ways to begin.

I'm Joss Frank, a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) specialising in womb healing and nervous system regulation for women.

Using Feminine Energy to Become a Master at Letting Go and Detachment

What does feminine energy have to do with letting go?

Everything.

Feminine energy is cyclical, fluid, and oriented toward surrender — the exact opposite of the clinging, resisting, and controlling states that make letting go so hard.

When you're unable to release something, you're often living in the qualities of masculine energy overdrive: gripping, forcing, analysing, trying to think your way through something that lives in the body. Feminine energy offers the counterbalance.

The qualities of feminine energy — surrender, openness, movement — are the same qualities that make letting go feel natural rather than forced.

The qualities of feminine energy are the same qualities that help you master letting go and detaching:

  • Surrender

  • Openness

  • Movement

Consider the qualities you feel when you can’t let go of something:

  • Clinging

  • Resisting

  • Refusing

  • Denying

When you align with feminine energy, you embody an open heart, mindfulness, and acceptance.

This frequency helps you master letting go because you begin to embody the qualities of self-acceptance and surrender more.

Life begins to support your natural ability to surrender and go with the flow.

How to Embrace Feminine Energy So You Can Let Go with Ease

Connecting with your feminine energy doesn't have to be complicated.

When I first started to learn about feminine energy, I realized how masculine I’d been living my life. I was so hard on myself, pushing my body, striving to meet deadlines.

There was no compassion or kindness, and as a result, I was suffering.

My ability to let go deepened through yoga & self-care practices designed to reconnect me with my feminine energy:

  • Prioritizing rest with yoga nidra

  • Honoring all the phases of my menstrual cycle, the seasons, and the moon phases

  • Womb meditation

  • Yoga exercises for pelvic health and womb healing

These exercises helped me begin to release stored tension, heavy emotions, and access my feminine flow.

Slowly - and day by day - this self-care helped me embody all the qualities I was craving in my life: surrender, allowing, acceptance.

If you’re ready to get better at letting go and detachment, start by integrating these small, mindful habits into your daily routine which honor feminine energy.

Simple Feminine Energy Practices So You Can Let Go with Greater Ease

Here are four simple practices that reconnect you with feminine energy and make releasing feel more natural:

  1. Align with the Moon Phases: Learn about the energy associated with each lunar phase and create rituals for the new moon and full moon to harness their transformative power.

  2. Honor Seasonal Changes: Celebrate the shifts in seasons, acknowledging the natural cycles of life and aligning with their ever-moving energy to foster a deeper connection to your surroundings.

  3. Track Your Menstrual Cycle: If you menstruate, use journaling to track your menstrual cycle and observe how the different phases of your cycle influence your emotions and energy.

  4. Recognize Feminine Energy Everywhere: Understand that feminine energy exists not only within you but in the world around you. It flows through nature, relationships, and the rhythms of daily life, take time to notice and honor it.

By embracing these practices, you can start to tap into the nurturing, cyclical nature of feminine energy and experience greater ease in the process of letting go and detachment.

Why Letting Go Feels So Hard (And What's Actually Going On)

Letting go is difficult because the body doesn't distinguish between emotional pain and physical threat.

When something feels significant — a relationship, an identity, a belief about yourself — the nervous system treats losing it like a survival risk. That's why you can know intellectually that something no longer serves you and still feel completely unable to release it.

This is where body-based practices outperform mindset work. You can't think your way out of a nervous system response — you have to move through it.

Struggling to let go of relationships, past experiences, or even limiting emotions often stems from a sense of disconnection. When you feel detached from yourself or the world around you, letting go can feel like an overwhelming challenge.

I used to be in such a state of resistance

Whenever I lost something in my life, my whole world would spiral. I couldn’t accept any form of change. What’s fascinating is that feminine energy is always moving and changing.

When you align with feminine energy, you realize that life is a constant state of change, nothing is permanent.

Change used to be scary for me, but it slowly become a safe and comforting truth.

If you find yourself constantly battling with the release of what no longer serves you - whether it's a partner, situation, or old emotional baggage - connecting with feminine energy is your ticket to more acceptance and freedom.

The Takeaway

Letting go isn't a decision you make once — it's a practice you return to, in your body, over time. Feminine energy supports this because it's inherently cyclical: it doesn't resist change, it moves with it.

The more you reconnect with your feminine energy through daily body-based practices — womb meditation, cycle awareness, rest, nervous system regulation — the more naturally releasing becomes part of how you move through life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you let go of someone you love using feminine energy?

Letting go of someone you love is less about forcing yourself to stop caring and more about coming back to yourself. Feminine energy practices — womb meditation, yoga nidra, cycle awareness — help regulate the nervous system and create the internal safety your body needs to begin releasing. Grief moves through the body, not around it.

What does it mean to "let go" in feminine energy work?

In feminine energy work, letting go means returning to a state of flow rather than resistance. It doesn't mean forgetting or not caring — it means releasing your grip on what you can't control and trusting the natural movement of life. Surrender is a feminine quality, not a weakness.

Can yoga therapy help with letting go and emotional release?

Yes. Yoga therapy works directly with the body and nervous system — where emotional patterns, grief, and stored tension actually live. Through somatic practices, breathwork, and womb-focused meditation, yoga therapy creates the conditions for genuine emotional release in a safe, supported way.

Why is letting go so hard even when you know you should?

Because letting go isn't a cognitive process — it's a nervous system process. Your body holds on to significant experiences as a form of self-protection, even when your mind knows it's time to move on. Body-based practices are more effective than willpower or positive thinking because they work at the level where the holding actually happens.

What is the connection between the womb and letting go?

The womb space — and the sacral chakra for those without a physical womb — is where women hold stored emotions, grief, and unprocessed experiences. Womb healing practices bring conscious, compassionate awareness to this space, allowing what has been held there to soften and release over time.
